Language and the state

One of the suggested topics for Part 2 of the Language A: Language and Literature guide is 'language and the state'. For this topic we will explore how language is used to inform the public. There are many types of texts that can be explored for this topic, from informational brochures to public service announcements like this one with 'Smokey the Bear'. By exploring a range of texts we are meeting the first of the learning outcomes for Part 2. What's more we will show how these texts influence audiences and propagate values through various linguistic techniques.
