A word class used for a number of functions, including modifying adjectives and verbs. Often, adverbs tell us about such things as time, manner, and place. These are called adverbs of manner. Adverbs can also modify adjectives and verbs by suggesting the degree - how much or how little - a verb is operationg or an adjective is modifying. These are called adjectives of degree.
