Learning outcomes

This section of the IB Business Management syllabus covers the main types or categories of business organizations, that operate in either the private sectors (such as sole traders, partnerships and limited liability cmpanies / corporations) or the public sector (with the main aim of providing essential goods and services for the general public).

The learning outcomes (or assessment objectives) for this unit are:

  • Distinction between the private and the public sectors (AO2)
  • The main features of the following types of for-profit (commercial) organizations (AO3):

• sole traders / sole proprietors

• partnerships

• companies / corporations

• cooperatives

• microfinance providers

• public-private partnerships (PPP)

• non-governmental organizations (NGOs)

• charities
