00:00.000 --> 00:05.520
In this video we will discuss how to brainstorm initial ideas. We will look at two different

00:05.520 --> 00:11.280
approaches, the first based on your interests and hobbies, and the second based on specific

00:11.280 --> 00:19.120
physics topics. A few quick tips for brainstorming. One, let your ideas flow freely. Two, quantity

00:19.120 --> 00:24.720
over quality, the goal here is to generate as many ideas as possible. And three, do not

00:24.720 --> 00:30.560
judge or analyze your ideas. We will do this in the next video. Let's start with some general

00:30.560 --> 00:36.320
areas for interests and hobbies. Here are some examples. Just put down as many areas here as

00:36.320 --> 00:41.920
you can think of. Next I will take a few minutes to think how physics might be present in each

00:41.920 --> 00:48.400
of these areas. You can use your own experience or do a quick google search. Within each general

00:48.400 --> 00:54.240
area you might identify specific physics concepts like light reflection, kinetic energy,

00:54.240 --> 01:00.000
or sound waves. You can also identify more specific hobbies and interests within a general

01:00.000 --> 01:07.120
area such as trains and basketball. Or you might simply eliminate areas that you decide not to

01:07.120 --> 01:13.280
investigate further such as gardening. For physics topics think about the areas that you find

01:13.280 --> 01:19.840
interesting or exciting and if it helps use your textbook and notes. Feel free to include topics

01:19.840 --> 01:26.480
that are not in a syllabus. Here are some examples. Next think about each area in a bit more detail.

01:26.480 --> 01:32.480
Recall experiments that you did in class or use the internet to do a quick search. Here are some

01:32.480 --> 01:39.120
examples of how you can go deeper into each area. If it helps you can even create lists from your

01:39.120 --> 01:46.240
brainstorming sessions as you see it here. With this we have completed step one action one. Now

01:46.240 --> 01:52.480
you know how to brainstorm ideas for your physics IA. In the next video we will discuss how to convert

01:52.480 --> 01:56.800
your ideas into a research question.
