Alveoli consist of two types of pneumocytes; <ul> <li class="liWithoutP">Type I are extremely thin and are adapted to carry out gas exchange.</li> <li class="liWithoutP">Type II secrete a solution containing surfactant that creates a moist surface inside the alveoli.
